Chiaksan 지악산-Wonju
There are many ways to get to this mountain in Wonju. It is possible to take a bus, but I went with some friends by taxi to the main entrance. We hiked to the peak, Birobong, which is 1,288 meters high. You can find many hikers of all ages hiking, cooling off in the river and making a picnic. There are many scenic spots with a good view of the city and the surounding wilderness. In spring you can find lots of wild berries. Birobong
It took us about 3hrs to get to the summit.

Odaesan National Park (오대산)
There are many beautiful hiking trails and temples to see here.
Sogeumgang (소금강)
You can get here via bus from Jimiljin or the number 303 from Gangneun gets you to the entrance. It is a wonderful easy hike that takes about 2 hrs or more if you want to take your time. The route goes to a waterfall called 9 dragon falls or guryongponpo. There is a beautiful cherry blossom tree in the temple site that they say is truly Korean because it does not loose its blossoms as fast as the other cherry blossom trees! Towards the entrance to this hike there are many souvenir/snack/restaurant shops. The makoli here is not the best, but the pajon (Korea veg pancake) is delicious! I have hiked this route twice. First with my coteachers at my school (this includes the cafeteria ladies, secretary, and our maintenance guy and principal) and second with fellow English teaching friends.
